The Oldest House on Nantucket

1686 saltbox · shingles, catslide roof, horseshoe chimney

Built in 1686, the Jethro Coffin House is the oldest house on Nantucket still on its original site: a weathered-shingle saltbox with a long catslide roof and a big brick chimney. The model shows its silver-grey cedar shingles, diamond-pane windows and the horseshoe pattern on the chimney.
