Hawthorne's House of the Seven Gables
First Period Colonial · seven steep gables, dark clapboard
Built in 1668 on Salem Harbor and made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel, this is one of the oldest surviving timber mansions in New England. The model captures its cluster of steep gables, near-black clapboard walls, weathered shingle roofs and tall red brick chimneys.
